Northern Virginia Chapter to Conduct Interviews for Vacancies on Fairfax County Courts

The Virginia Women Attorneys Association, Northern Virginia Chapter's Judicial Screening Committee will conduct interviews of applicants for the anticipated vacancies on the FAIRFAX COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT (1 anticipated vacancy) & FAIRFAX COUNTY JUVENILE & DOMESTIC RELATIONS DISTRICT COURT (2 anticpated vacancies).

Interviews of applicants for the Fairfax County Circuit Court vacancy will be conducted virtually on October 27, 2020. Interviews of applicants for the Fairfax County Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court vacancies will be conducted virtually on October 29, 2020.

Applications must be returned to Michelle Kaminsky via email or via the VWAA website by 5:00 p.m. on October 16, 2020. The application can be found on the VWAA website or requested from Michelle Kaminsky (mkaminsky@khitelaw.com). Please also include a photograph and biography with your application.

NVWAA and/or VWAA members who practice in the Fairfax County Circuit Court and/or Fairfax County Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court are needed to sit on the panels. Please contact Michelle at mkaminsky@khitelaw.com or 703-766-0732 as soon as possible if you are able to participate.


Proposal to Amend the MCLE Rules to Include Elimination Bias Training

The VSB Diversity Committee has made a proposal to amend the MCLE rules to include Elimination Bias training as an approved MCLE topic.  By consensus, the VWAA Board voted to sign onto a letter urging the VSB to adopt the amendments. Anyone who is interested in contacting the VSB individually should do so promptly.  The MCLE Board will be voting on the issue August 17.


VWAA Annual Meeting

The VWAA Annual meeting will be held on June 20, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. by teleconference. Access information will be sent out by email prior to the meeting. The VWAA Board meeting will immediately follow the Annual meeting.


How to Identify and Get Help/Manage Stress and Anxiety CLE

Join us on June 20, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. for a CLE on How to Identify and Get Help/Manage Stress and Anxiety. This CLE will be a ZOOM call (meeting time is EST) presented by Barbara Mardigian, Deputy Clinical Director of the Virginia Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program.

Please register prior to the CLE so you can earn credit. Additional information about the event can be found on the calendar.


Results of 18th Judicial Circuit of Virginia, Alexandria Circuit Court Vacancy Interviews

On May 18, 2020 the Northern Virginia Chapter's Judicial Screening Committee conducted virtual interviews of four candidates for the anticipated vacancy on the 18th Judicial Circuit of Virginia, Alexandria Circuit Court. The results of the screening interviews and additional information about each candidate can be found in the letter issued by the Virginia Women Attorneys Association on May 28, 2020.
